Upcoming Events
Community Chipper Days
Coronado SWCD hosts community chipper days two to three times each year to help residents remove woody debris and reduce wildfire hazards around their homes. Residents may bring small trees and branches up to six inches in diameter, with branch ends aligned in the same direction. Construction waste and barbed wire are not accepted. Residents may take wood chips home for mulch, and remaining chips are available while supplies last. The last Chipper Day processed 59 loads of brush. Las Acequias de Placitas and Las Huertas Land Grant supported the event. Future dates and locations will be announced here.
Learning Today, Conserving Tomorrow
Youth Conservation Education Coronado SWCD is working to offer more hands-on conservation education for children and teens. We welcome ideas from teachers, schools, youth organizations, families, and community partners. What would you like young people to learn about? Possible topics include soil health, water conservation, erosion, wildfire preparedness, native plants, pollinators, and conservation careers. Conservation Starts Close to Home
Have you noticed erosion on your property, invasive trees along an arroyo, or woody debris that could become a wildfire hazard? These local concerns guide Coronado SWCD’s work.
We work with residents, landowners, and community partners to identify conservation needs, explore funding opportunities, and coordinate projects that protect our soil and water. You don’t have to serve on the Board to get involved. Attend a public Board meeting, share a concern, or contact us to learn about upcoming projects and volunteer opportunities. Your local knowledge helps us understand where we need to focus our work.
